DoublePro®: One More Layer Can Make a World of Difference!

Dual-Layer Gutter Guards Really Do Outperform the Single-Layer Type

There are more than 200 different gutter guards on the North American market alone, not to mention the hundreds of registered patents for rainwater management systems.

Inventors and manufacturers have gone to great lengths to develop the best possible gutter guards at reasonable prices, but homeowners remain unimpressed. And with good reason—gutters keep clogging, and too often, it’s the gutter guard itself that gets blocked.

Alu-Rex listened to customer feedback and tackled the issue head-on. The result? The all-new DoublePro® system, a marvel of ingenuity.

What Fine Filtering Can and Can’t Do

How do you keep a rain gutter from clogging? It turns out there’s no simple answer.

At first glance, a fine mesh or screen seems like a logical solution. Many gutter guards feature membranes resembling bug screens, with holes no bigger than one or two millimeters. These mesh systems have proven effective at blocking small debris like pine needles and shingle grit from entering the gutters.

However, over time, sticky substances such as mud, pollen, roofing tar, and sap accumulate in the mesh and harden like glue. Neither wind, rain, nor even vigorous scrubbing can dislodge them. In the end, fine-mesh gutter guards don’t solve the problem of clogged gutters.

Doubling Down to Block Fine Debris

Perforated aluminum has been a trusted solution for decades. Single-layer systems are popular for their durability and their ability to balance debris filtration with efficient rainwater absorption. Plus, their smooth surface makes cleaning easier, reducing the need for frequent maintenance.

For Alu-Rex’s experts, the choice was clear: move away from fine filtration and design DoublePro® based on the proven performance of perforated aluminum.

Doubling Down to Prevent Clogged Gutter Guards

The key innovation? A second protective layer. The bottom layer’s main role is to stop any debris that makes it through the top layer from reaching and blocking the gutter. Its large oblong openings are strategically offset from the micro-openings above, meaning debris—like a pine needle—never finds a direct path inside.

All filters require occasional cleaning, and DoublePro® is no exception. However, with this system, wind and rain handle most of the work, significantly reducing the need for manual cleaning. Alu-Rex has designed the two perforated aluminum layers to maximize self-cleaning. The smooth aluminum surface, small top-layer perforations, the space between the two layers, and the larger perforations in the bottom layer all work together to ensure that sap, tar, pollen, and other sticky substances flow naturally out of the gutter.

Alu-Rex believes so strongly in its new dual-layer DoublePro® gutter guards that it patented the technology, now available under the name Eclipse™.
